How Verification Works
The verification process is swift and automated:
User Submission: The user is prompted to upload a government-issued ID (e.g., driver's license, passport) and take a live selfie through their device's camera.
Stripe's Technology Review: Stripe's AI and machine learning capabilities automatically perform three key checks:
Document Authenticity: Checks the uploaded ID against a database of known fraudulent templates.
Facial Biometrics: Uses computer vision to ensure the live selfie matches the photo on the government-issued ID.
Data Cross-Reference: Cross-references the user's name, date of birth, and ID number against global databases.
Result Notification: Weatherill Essentials receives a secure notification of the verification result (Verified/Unverified/Needs Attention). This result is then used to grant access, complete a transaction, or move to the next step in the relationship (e.g., signing a publishing contract).
